Benefiting from a recent expansion by over 50%, the Centro de Arte Reina
Sofía; museoreinasofia.mcu.es; Métro: Atocha), is a beautiful and
well-designed gallery of Spanish modern art.
The museum proudly offers modern exhibition halls, an impressive book
store and a photographic library. The museum is sold short if you only
come to see Picasso's masterpiece, Guernica. Rivaling the size of the
side of a semi-truck trailer, you will likely need 15-30 minutes to take all
of the detail.
Located just a few minutes walk from the Prado and the
Thyssen-Bornemisza, the remodel of this
museum was handled by Jean Nouvel, a French architect, rather than Rafael
Moneo that was the architect for the Reina Sofía's neighbors, Atocha station
across the street and the Prado, located on
the same street, Paseo del Prado.
