Bus terminals are located in various neighborhoods in the city, but the largest
(pictured above) - used by all of the international bus services - is Estación Sur de Autobuses on c/Méndez Alvaro; Métro: Méndez
Alvaro.
If you need to travel between Atocha train station and Estación Sur, do
not take the Metro, as there is not direct Metro connection. Use the Cercanías
trains (just one station stop between them) or take a cab the 1.5km between the stations.
You'll find another bus terminal for buses operated by Sepulvedana if you want
to head to Segovia
and other cities. The station is just across the street
from the train station Príncipe Pío (Estación del Norte). Both the Cercanías
trains and Metro stop at this station
Another bus terminal located in Moncloa
(actually, above Métro: Moncloa) will take you to El Pardo, El Escorial and
other cities. In summer, this station is an inferno, so dress to shed
clothing.
The bus terminal located at Métro: Conde Casal will take you to Zaragoza and
other cities.
While you may find the stations themselves dark and somewhat rundown, the
buses are generally clean, well air-conditioned and timely. Due to
government route subsidization, no two bus companies run between Madrid and
other tourist cities and the fares are the lowest of all options.
