Huelva
I'm not really sure what would bring you to Huelva, but as long as you're here, you should know how to make a decent visit. Here's my recommendations:
The province of Huelva has 4 things going for it...
- Beach
- Nature parks
- Inland sights
- Sierra mountains
Huelva Beaches
The diversity of beaches in Huelva means that all tastes are catered for, whether you are adventurous or romantic, looking for a busy beach with complete range of services and things to do, or preferring to go for long walks without seeing a soul for miles and miles.
Some of the best known Huelva beach destinations are Isla Canela, Punta del Moral, Islantilla, Isla Cristina, El Rompido, Punta Umbría, Mazagón and Matalascañas.
But the good thing is (maybe the worst, if you'd like to meet someone), Huelva is undiscovered by international tourism. If you come from September to June you'll have them practically to yourselves.
Huelva Nature
One out of every 3 square acres is a nature reverve. In Huelva you can find one National Park (The Doñana); two Nature Parks; eight Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty; one Protected Landscape; four Nature Reserves; five Natural Monuments; and two Green-Belt Parks.
Inland Adventures
You'll notice that I am stretching it here, but better that I lead you to something, than you sit in you hotel room!
The bike path goes from Huelva to Punta Umbría – via Boot Beach (La Bota), known as “The Crossroads” – can be done on bike, skating or walking. Get out on the water a bit with the ferry boat “Canoa” over to Punta Umbría, because the boat takes you through the estuary and creeks, and across the Odiel Estuary Marshes Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A great way to pass time is taking a walk on the beach.
Huelva Sierra
Sierra is Spanish for Mountain range, so I am being very liberal in my use of the word, as you won't find any mountain here -- just a "hill" range, as the highest peak measures 1,059 metres at Cerro de los Bonales.
Having said that, Huelva sierra is much more than mountains, there are some nice views, chestnut forests, typical Andalusian white villages perched on the mountain side and absolutely delicious food.
